Peer pressure is a huge existing problem in college. The pressure put on you by your peers can be an extremely difficult situation to navigate. Students at college want to fit in with their friend groups and engage in things that may not be good for your health. Why is saying no to peer pressure so important?

Peer pressure can come in a variety of situations that could possibly include drugs, alcohol, engaging in activities that could get you kicked out of school, or even dealing with legal trouble. The first step to dealing with peer pressure is paying attention to how you feel. Do you feel uncomfortable? Will it get you in trouble with the university or the law? Will it effect your physical or mental health? These are things to consider when you are dealing with peer pressure.

The next step is to talk to the person or group who is pressuring you into something. Let them know how they are making you feel and ask them to stop. If they do not stop, remove yourself from the situation. You can make up a lie to get out of a situation or find an immediate way to leave.

Surrounding yourself with people who have the same beliefs and values as you is extremely important in college. Simply, if you do not partake in drugs, do not involve yourself in groups who may do these bad things. Friends are supposed to encourage you to do positive things and push you to be the best you, you can be. They are not your friends if they are trying to pressure you into doing something you do not want to do.

Peer pressure can me detrimental to student health a lot of the times. It can make you feel isolated, depressed, and anxious. However, peer pressure can pop up at any time whether it be in college or in your social life outside of it. It is important to stick up yourself, do what you no is right, and say no to peer pressure at all costs. This will allow you to live a healthy and non-anxious lifestyle when you’re with a group of friends.
